Basics
Gaming / Big Picture Mode
- Mode designed for usage with controllers and more “console-like” experience
- This is the default mode when booting up SteamOS
Desktop Mode
- Mode that let’s you access a normal desktop environment (default is KDE Plasma on SteamOS)

Hardware
Components
Battery Storage Mode
- Mode recommended when storing for a long time, shipping or taking apart a Steam Deck
- Prevents power button press powering on the Steam Deck and the mode is exited by connecting a charger
- Can be activated in the BIOS / UEFI
- LCD Steam Decks ship with this enabled by default while OLEDs can be powered on normally
